The Rota Legislative Delegation passed Thursday last week a local bill that appropriates $50,000 from the Rota Municipal Scholarship Foundation Reserve Account for student scholarships and housing assistance in the amount of $14,500.

During the RLD’s session in the mayor’s conference room Thursday, the delegation also passed a local bill that appropriates $50,000 in the poker licensing fees for the medical subsistence allowance of Rota’s hemodialysis and terminally-ill patients in the amount of $10,000.

Rep. Donald M. Manglona (Ind-Rota), who co-chairs RLD, is the author of the two local bills.

At the same session, the RLD passed a local bill that will name the Rota Health Center’s Divine Mercy Chapel after former Senate president and RHC director Julian S. Calvo.

Senate Local Bill 22-15, authored by Sen. Teresita A. Santos (Ind-Rota), proposed renaming the RHC Divine Mercy Chapel as the Julian S. Calvo Divine Mercy Chapel in recognition of Calvo’s “exemplary service and significant contributions to the Municipality of Rota and to the people of the Commonwealth.”

Calvo was elected senator for Rota from 1978 to 1980, and then from 1984 to 1988 and was elected floor leader in the 3rd Legislature before becoming the Senate president in the 5th Legislature.
