Defending co-ed middle school division badminton champion Saipan International School opened its campaign in the first round-robin game day of the TakeCare Interscholastic Badminton League with a sweep of their competition last Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.

Saipan Community School and Tinian Jr. High School also mirrored the Geckos’ success in Day 1 of competition.

All three schools swept each of their two opponents in five categories after garnering the full 3 points in one game and accumulating 15 points per opponent for a total of 30 points—the most points a single team can get.

In Bracket 2 of the league, the SIS Geckos made light work of Tanapag Middle School Tatagas, sweeping them in the boys doubles, girls singles, boys singles, girls doubles, and mixed doubles.

In all three matches of one game, the Geckos received 3 points in each of the five categories to sweep the competition with a total of 15 points.

After their game against the Tatagas, they went on to face their spring league finals rival, Hopwood Middle School 2, and blew them out of the water as well, defeating them in all five categories, garnering 3 points in each for a total of 15 points.

In the same bracket, the SCS Guardians swept their competition, nailing all matches with 3 points for a total of 15 points against their first opponent Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr. High School Bucks.

Their last game against Mount Carmel School Knights, they sang the same old song as they swept them for an additional 15 points, for 30 points total.

In Bracket 1, Tinian Jr. High School Stallions made their way to Saipan and dominated the two schools they faced, with a total of 30 points after defeating DanDan Middle School Tottots and ChaCha Oceanview Middle School Lancherus. DMS and ChaCha MS currently have no wins.

In other results, Francisco M. Sablan Middle School Napu Riders split both games, winning all five categories against Chacha MS, 15-0, and losing against Agape Christian School Torchbearers, 6-9; ACS went on to win again against HMS 1, 13-2; HMS 1 went on to win against DMS in a sweep of 15 points; TMS split their games, losing to SIS and winning against MCS, 15-0; MCS currently has no wins; HMS 2 split their games with a win against Dr. Rita H.
