Kagman gave San Antonio U15 Girls National Team a neat lesson in basetball as they won 40-28 in the women’s open division of the 2022 Marianas Village Pride Basketball League last Sunday at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium in Gualo Rai.
The girls came running strong out of the starting gates with San Antonio’s Azriel Fatialofa taking control of the reins as she scored 12 of their team’s 17 points in the first half.
Teammate Kaithlyn Chavez made the team’s first 2 points, followed by Chealzka Navarro’s 2 points, and Venice Enriquez’ free throw.
Azriel ended the game with 18 points—the most of the game but was laid to waste as the team could not bridge the widening gap against Kagman.
Kagman came out of the first period with 6 points in the lead after a flurry of 3-pointers from Yasmeen Younis with one, ShaAina Mendoza with two, and Mikki Kautz with one. Kautz added 4 more points for good measure along with Mendoza and Kaia Travilla’s two points each and Travilla’s free throw.
In the second period, Kagman extended the ceiling even further with 40 points as San Antonio could not catch up and ended with 28 points.
The bulk of the points for Kagman in the final half were swished in by Travilla with 6, and her teammates Kautz, Mendoza, and Ramon chipped in the remaining 11 points for a wide berth away from San Antonio. Mendoza brought in the most buckets for the team with 13.
In the second game, Chalan Kiya made light work of San Vicente, pulverizing them, 53-26 in the U18 boys division.
It was a rough and tumble game as although Chalan Kiya scored the most buckets, they also committed the most fouls, allowing 10 points from free throws for San Vicente.
Chalan Kiya’s Justice Aldan swished the net the most with 22 of the team’s 53 points, with teammate Lushawn Reyes firing 8, Harry Kapwich scoring 6, Paul Baitlon scoring 5, and Jayvan Kapwich, Derek Rangamar, and Ton Peter scoring the rest of the team’s points throughout the game.
San Vicente was fazed as they were fouled left and right and they could only put up 20 more points besides their free throws. In the end, Palino Hilario Jr. and Jacky Liu netted 7 each, with Jerald Aquino adding 6, Nolan Cultura shooting 5, and with Chris Pino’s 1 point.
