The Marianas Visitors Authority has won its first Pacific Asia Travel Association Gold Awards under the Asia/Pacific Tourism Destination Resilience and Global Tourism Destination Resilience category.
According to a social media post made by PATA headquarters, out of 136 participants, the CNMI, through the representation of MVA, came out on top in this year’s PATA Gold Awards.
“Congratulations to the winning projects that stood out from 136 entries in this year’s PATA Gold Awards, with two new Tourism Destination Resilience awards introduced to highlight the need to focus on a more resilient and sustainable future. The winning Gold Award projects are truly deserving of the honor for continuing to set the industry standard for excellence and innovation,” PATA HQ stated.
Under the leadership of MVA managing director Priscilla Iakopo, MVA staff submitted an application for the 38th annual PATA Gold awards.
“This year PATA added two new categories: Asia/Pacific Tourism Destination Resilience and Global Tourism Destination Resilience awards,” Iakopo explained.
Iakopo said it is an honor for MVA to receive such a prestigious award as the CNMI was competing against numerous other destination sites in the Asia-Pacific region.
“The MVA is pleased to share that the Marianas won the Global Tourism Destination Resilience PATA Gold Award. It is truly an honor to win this Global Tourism Destination Resilience award as we competed with other destinations,” she said.
The 2022 PATA Grand and Gold Awards recognize the achievements of separate organizations and individuals. The ceremony was presented during the Virtual Awards Ceremony last Friday, Oct. 7, 2022.
