The Saipan Fil-American Lions Club installed its new officers and inducted five new members at the Fiesta Hall of Grandvrio Resort Saipan last Oct. 1.

The club is also celebrating its 30th anniversary in community service in the CNMI.

Immediate past district governor Saturnino “Atoy” Banting and Zone 1 chair Alicia Barbo inducted the new members and installed the new officers, respectively.

The new officers for the Lion Year 2022-2023 are president Maria Socorro Huliganga, first vice president Arvin Ian Salas, second vice president Vicente Obana, Lions Clubs International Foundation coordinator Marcelo Masilungan, secretary Maria Annamae Adaza, treasurer Edmin Elayda, Marketing and Communication chair Mario Mayuga, membership chair, LEO adviser, and club administrator Eden Mercado, Service chair Michelle Taisacan, assistant secretary Leonila Mendoza, assistant treasurer Yolanda De Ramos, auditor Ma. Teresa Obana, one-year directors Ronald De Ramos and Jessica Dizon, two-year directors Jean Pumatong and Teogenes Mendoza, safety officers Arturo Ancheta, Joselito Espino, Domingo Dy Jr., Segundo Lapeceros Jr., and Raul Dolotina, Lion tamer Jaime Del Peralta, and tail twister Anastacia Mercado.

“I was overwhelmed with the support of our fellow Lions. To Jerry Tan and Gov. Ralph DLG Torres I know they have hectic schedules but they were able to join us in our celebration,” said Huliganga.

The Saipan Fil-American Lions Club also presented a plaque of appreciation to Jerry Tan as club charter president, while Mayuga received the Charter Member award. Masilungan also received the Lion of the Year award from the home club, as the club president for Lion Year 2021-2022 as well for his generous contribution to the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

The club was chartered way back in 1992, with the Makati Mabuhay Lions Club as the sponsor and endorsed by Multiple District 301-A2, Philippines. At that time District 204 was not yet established. The club charter president was Tan, and he was the keynote speaker of the event. Before he delivered his speech Tan showed a video of their activities way back in 1992. He also brought his charter officers who are still on the island, Ross Zapanta, Nimfa Canedo, and Dannie Robles.

Torres also served as one of the guest speakers of the event, and he is an honorary member of the club as well. He is thankful for all Lions clubs’ contributions to the CNMI community.

The Lions clubs here on Saipan are composed of nine clubs, namely Saipan Fil-American Lions Club, Saipan Unity LC, Saipan Marianas LC, Saipan Alliance LC, Saipan Centennial LC, Saipan Natibu Lions Club, Saipan Fitbeat Lions Club, Saipan Pacific LC, and Saipan Infinity Lions Club. The event was hosted by the club secretary Adaza.
