Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has appointed military and veterans family advocate Marie Salas-Igitol as executive officer for Military Liaison and Veterans Affairs under the Office of the Governor.

Torres said he is confident that Salas-Igitol will devote her time and efforts to represent the interests of CNMI’s active service members and veterans who devoted their lives defending the islands and the country.

Salas-Igitol previously served as coordinator of Military and Family Readiness in the CNMI.

Torres’ letter to Salas-Igitol on Monday said the Military Liaison and Veterans Affairs shall be responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the office.

He said it shall have the authority over all military and veterans affairs of the U.S. Armed Forces in all matters that are not within the exclusive jurisdiction of the U.S. government.

Last Sept. 26, citing that Torres denied his request for advance military leave, Stanley T. Iakopo tendered his resignation as executive officer of the Military Liaison and Veterans Affairs.
