The Saipan Paddling Club will host its 3rd Annual 5K Run Glow Edition on Oct. 5 at 6pm starting from the Garapan Fishing Base.
The registration fee is $11 which will include glow rings. Event T-shirts will be available for purchase at $10.

“Continuing Saipan Paddling Club’s Healthy lifestyle program besides outrigger paddling, this 5K run is another way to get our island folks out to exercise while having fun… We wanted to do something not normally done so this is what we came up with—it will be done after the sun sets so the glow materials will really come out,” said Saipan Paddling Club president and head coach Justin Andrew.
“We encourage everyone to come out and just have a wonderful time. It’s not a competition so there is really no pressure for those who take part—we just want to have fun and burn calories and stay healthy,” the veteran paddler added.
Andrew said the Saipan Paddling Club thanks everyone who is helping make this a fun event.
“Huge shoutout to Edward Dela Cruz Jr. of Run Saipan for his advice and guidance as well as our friends and families who encourage and support our club to keep doing these healthy living activities.”
Proceeds from the event will help send the youth and young adult outrigger paddlers to Palau to take part in the Micronesia Cup Outrigger Races to be held next month from Oct. 20 to 23.
Andrew said that they “are very excited for this year’s race as it will be its first time back after the pandemic.”
The Micronesia Cup Outrigger Race is hosted annually which is rotated among the CNMI, Palau, and Guam.
The races were canceled for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the last time it was held was 2019 in Palau.
Last year, due to the pandemic, the 5K was held virtually with about 30 participants.
