Gerald F. Smith and his wife Tobed R. Smith met with Palau Community College president Dr. Patrick U. Tellei and donated another $4,000 to the late Ngirturong Yamazaki Rengiil Memorial Scholarship. The Smiths family has now donated a total of $10,000 to the PCC endowment scholarship in his honor. Rengiil was a traditional chief of Ngeremlengui State who practiced carpentry by trade in Palau for many years. Noting his lifelong accomplishments, Rengiil was a master builder, educator, government advisor, public official, and a remarkably skilled man who helped build some of Palau’s first roads, bridges across Babeldaob and schools all over Palau.

The recipient of this scholarship will receive $250 per semester or $500 per academic year.

PCC thanked Gerald and Tobed Smith for their contribution to support student learning at our only higher institution. PCC is an accessible comprehensive public educational institution helping to meet the technical, academic, cultural, social, and economic needs of students and communities by promoting learning opportunities and developing personal excellence.
