All three Marianas High School girls volleyball teams continued their winning streak as they proved once again to their cheering and screaming home crowd that their losses in their openers were just a fluke.

The three Lady Dolphins teams swept all four of their games last Tuesday in the continuation of the Public School System Girls High School Volleyball League 2022-2023 at the MHS Gymnasium.

The last win of the night for the home team saw the MHS varsity beat archrival Saipan Southern High School in a close match, 21-18, 21-18.

The MHS team had the lead in the last set and almost blew it as the Lady Manta Rays put up a fight to catch up and force a third set, but ultimately fell short when MHS reached the 21-point mark first.

The first win of the night came courtesy of MHS JV when they broke down Mount Carmel School JV in three tough sets, 23-21, 21-23, 15-9.

Afterwards, the MHS 9 team took the spotlight when they claimed back-to-back wins.

The team claimed their first win which was against Agape Christian School JV in two sets, 21-8, 21-13. Despite having just played, they displayed dominance on the court once again as their second win was against an already tired MCS JV, which they won in two sets, 21-18, 21-8.

With the teams’ wins, both MHS 9 and the varsity team are at three wins and one loss, while the MHS JV is at two wins and one loss.

After the game, MHS volleyball team coach Don Marshall Davis Cabrera was asked what are the MHS varsity team’s chances in making it all the way.

“I think our chances are pretty good. We just need to do a lot of cleaning up. We’re still playing really sloppily, but I’m proud of them… we had four games and all my teams won today, so [I’m] happy for that, but there’s still room for improvement.”

In the other games of the night, Grace Christian Academy JV faced off with Kagman High School and won in two sets, 21-10, 21-8.

Agape Christian School varsity played against Saipan International School and won in two sets, 21-15, 21-14.

In the varsity standings, GCA is still on top with 3-0, MHS is at 3-1, MCS is still 2-1, SIS is at 2-1, ACS is at 1-2, KHS is still 0-2, and SSHS is at the bottom with a 0-4 record.

In the junior varsity standings, MHS 9 and GCA JV are at 3-1, SSHS JV and MHS JV are at 2-1, ACS JV and SIS JV are at 1-2, KHS JV and MCS JV are at 1-3.

The Public School System Girls High School Volleyball League 2022-2023 is being held with help from the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association.
