Both of Grace Christian Academy Lady Eagles’ volleyball teams racked up two more wins last Thursday in the continuation of the Public School System Girls High School Volleyball League 2022-2023 at the MHS Gymnasium.
The top seeded varsity teams this season, GCA and the Mount Carmel School Lady Knights, went head-to-head in a match with the former coming out still undefeated in just two sets, 21-9, 21-19.
Prior to the varsity bout, the junior varsity Lady Eagles bested the Saipan Southern High School junior varsity in two sets as well, 21-12, 21-13.
GCA varsity team head coach Cesar Liput was asked how the game went and he said, “well, the players are excited. They missed a lot of sets because of that excitement—they almost gave me a heart attack,” he said jokingly.
“But I called a time out and they just mellowed and teamwork is still there, so I just want to give MCS the praise because they’re getting better. It was a really good game. But I think during the pressure, the kids handled it properly,” he said.
The GCA varsity team is the only undefeated team in the ongoing season, with three wins.
The GCA varsity team is composed of Hye Jin Elliott, Katriel Saures, Soleil Lamar, Vicky Wang, Allyssa Omampo, Cassie Regan, Eunice Pagaduan, and Azriel Fatialofa.
The GCA junior varsity team includes Hannah Tenorio, Nieves Villagomez, Cherries Camacho, Eunji Hahn, Kaydece Gilespie, Taehee Kim, Beatrice Fabre, Mariana Angeles, and Fiona Regan.
In other games that night, both Saipan International School teams won their games in their division, with SIS JV defeating Kagman High School in two sets, 21-5, 21-10 and SIS varsity defeating SSHS in two sets as well, 22-20, 21-11.
Lastly, Marianas High School varsity defeated KHS in three sets, 14-21, 21-9, 15-8.
In the varsity standings, GCA is on top with 3-0, MCS fell 2-1, MHS is at 2-1, SIS is at 2-0, KHS fell to 0-2, ACS is at 0-2, and SSHS is at the bottom with a 0-3 record.
The Public School System Girls High School Volleyball League 2022-2023 is being held with help from the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association.
