Nickole Salem won the 49-lb girls division of the Pan Kids Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2022 last July.

The 5-year-old daughter of Nicko and Maria Salem defeated a 7-year-old from North Carolina two times to win the coveted division championship.

Her gold medal in the Pan Kids Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2022 is her 23rd gold medal to date and her father, Saipan-born Nicko, couldn’t be more proud of Nickole.

“I am just really proud of her advancement because her grit and determination is unmatched,” he said. “Me and her mom are just really proud.”

He also notes that an Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter attended the event and commented on the younger Salem’s performance.

“She will be special one day,” Nicko relayed the comment of the UFC fighter.

“That just means the world to me when he said that,” he said. “Especially coming from a professional fighter.”

He also mentions the different mindset between his 5-year-old daughter and her other 7-year-old opponents.

“It’s the fire that lit under feet,” said Salem, as he goes to mention their different motor abilities and development.

As of late Nickole was elevated to gray belt and battled in the NewBreed Tournament in Charlotte, Northern Carolina under the development division at 45 lbs.

“Her potential is too high,” said Salem.

“But at the end of the day, we are not too worried because she constantly improves her techniques and skills,” he added.
