387th COVID-19-related death reported in Guam; 109 new cases
The Joint Information Center in Guam was notified that Guam’s 387th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City on Aug. 12, 2022. The patient was an 89-year-old female, fully vaccinated without a booster, with underlying health conditions who tested positive on July 31.
“[First gentleman] Jeff [Cook], [Lt. Gov.] Josh [Tenorio], and I offer our prayers and heartfelt condolences to her loved ones during this difficult time,” said Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero. “This virus is still present within our community, and we must continue to treat it as such. We all know the basics—wearing your mask, washing your hands, and watching our distance. We also call on everyone eligible to get vaccinated and stay up-to-date with your booster. Should you test positive for the virus, please check your healthcare provider and avail of our COVID treatments to get you better faster.”
Yesterday, the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services reported 109 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,072 specimens collected on Aug. 15, 2022. Fifteen of the new cases reported were through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 56,913 officially reported cases in Guam, 387 deaths, 658 cases in active isolation, and 55,868 not in active isolation. (PR)
