Sherlyn Jones completed a hat trick in the NMI Women’s Golf Association after winning her third monthly tournament last Saturday at the Coral Ocean Resort.
The retired Commonwealth Health Center nurse won CWGA’s August tournament after firing a net score of 67.
The Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia native actually carded a gross score of 83 (41-42), which minus her 16 handicap, gave her the score to beat in the monthly tournament.
“Just a lucky day for me, because everyone did well,” she told Saipan Tribune.
Jones added that last Saturday at the Agingan golf course was a perfect day for golf.
“The course was beautiful and the weather was perfect. I want to dedicate this win to my husband and children for their continuous love and support,” she said.
Jones, who also won the January and May editions of the tournament, started playing the sport after being invited by Terry Attao to play a round in 2007.
Coming in second to Jones in the August tournament was Clara Chang who finished with the same net score but lost in a scorecard tiebreaker.
The 21-handicapper shot her net of 67 following identical 44s in the front and back nines for her 88 gross. Third place went to Sunny Son, who had a net 68 (86 gross, 43-43).
A total of 14 golfers took part in the CWGA August tournament. The rest were Mio Kim (net 70), Doll Yamagishi (net 70), Lorraine Babauta (net 74), Lou Kim (net 74), Flor Jones (net 75), Janet Torres (76), Emily Qiu (net 77), Yuko Togawa (net 80), Rose Rohringer (net 80), Nana Liu (net 90), and Betty Bai (gross 99).
