Donation replaces some items stolen from Man’amko Center

Four lawmakers donated some items yesterday to the Man’amko Center, or Office on Aging in Garapan, to replace some of the items that were stolen from the center during a burglary last June 21.
Office on Aging director Walter Manglona and the senior citizens received the donations from Sen. Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) and Reps. Corina L. Magofna (Ind-Saipan), Denita Yangetmai (D-Saipan), and Vicente Camacho (D-Saipan).
DeLeon Guerrero donated a television set worth $749, a printer worth $460, and ink worth $148. Magofna and Yangetmai shared the $1,000 cost for their donated items—one ukulele, one guitalele (a mini guitar), one five-gallon gas container, one Bluetooth speaker, one case of bananas, a case of seedless red grapes, a case of apple, a case of orange, and two cases of bowl noodles.
Camacho said he is donating a laptop that he will deliver as soon as it arrives.
DeLeon Guerrero said the funding for the donations came from their respective offices.
DeLeon Guerrero said they were saddened upon learning about the burglary at Man’amko Center, knowing that the center’s congregants—the man’amko (elderly)—use the items to make their daily visit to the center enjoyable.
“Replacing what they lost will bring back their joy and laughter with their friends at the center,” DeLeon Guerrero said.
Thousands of dollars’ worth of musical equipment, tools, and a 32-inch flat-screen TV were stolen from the Man’amko Center during the burglary.
The Office on Aging said many of the stolen items were purchased using money from fundraisers conducted by the senior citizens who are members of the Man’amko Center.
