Michelob Ultra is the official sponsor of the first ever Beer Mile in the Northern Mariana Islands on Aug. 5, 2022, coinciding with International Beer Day.

Michelob Ultra hit the ground running in 2002 as a beer for health-conscious drinkers, fitness enthusiasts, and athletes. Thanks to a big push from professional athletes like cyclist Lance Armstrong and volleyball player Kerry Walsh, Michelob Ultra is now one of America’s top light beers.

A Beer Mile is a 1-mile race invented by Canadian runners in 1989. It combines the physical challenge of interval training with the skill of speed drinking. The beer mile required runners to consume a 12-oz. beer before each quarter mile lap, i.e. four beers and four laps.

“We are pleased to partner up with a great organization such as Run Saipan on this one-of-a-kind event,” said Marianas Pacific Distributors resident manager Guy Pudney. “It should be a fun-filled day for everyone to come out and Run with Ultra.”

Unofficial beer mile races have been held for decades but began gaining global attention in 2014 with the first Beer Mile World Championship in Austin, Texas. The current world record for the beer mile is held by Canadian runner, Corey Bellemore, with an amazing time of 4 minutes and 28 seconds. The female record is an equally impressive 6:16.5, set in 2020 by Allison Grace Morgan of Bend, Oregon.

“As this is the first ever Beer Mile in the CNMI, the fastest male and female will set the standard for future races,” commented Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. “Registration ends on Aug. 4 so we encourage everyone interested to sign up now and secure your place.”

Registration for the NMI Michelob Ultra Beer Mile is now open via RaceRoster. The $20 registration fee includes the four beers necessary to complete the course, special race bibs, and a high-quality finisher medal for the first 100 runners to cross the finish line. Net proceeds will support Run Saipan, a nonprofit running community dedicated to hosting running events in the CNMI. “Our mission is to promote cardiovascular health through running,” said Run Saipan secretary/treasurer Ron Snyder. “Anything we can do to motivate people to get moving is a win for us in achieving our mission and the Michelob Ultra Beer Mile should help us prove to everyone that running is fun.”

In addition to the finisher medals, the top male and female finishers (by time) will receive a Michelob Ultra Prize Pack. The Michelob Ultra Beer Mile will kick off at 5:30pm on Aug. 5, 2022 at the Saipan Vegas Country Club on Middle Road.

Whether you are at the Beer Mile, with family and friends or out on the town, please drink responsibly and arrange a designated driver. Have fun and stay safe CNMI!
