After more than 40 days of being away, Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios finally arrived on Saipan last Saturday morning aboard a flight from Hawaii where he had been medically transferred last June 3
Palacios, accompanied by his wife, Wella Palacios, was met at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport by a group of well-wishers that included Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang. The two are running-mates this Nov. 8 general election, with Palacios running for governor and Apatang as his lieutenant governor, on an independent slate.
Supporters and candidates running under the team also lined up on the side of Tun Herman Pan Road and greeted the Palacios couple as they made their way from the airport. Many waved banners that read “Welcome Home Lt. Governor Arnold Palacios.”
Palacios, who was on the front seat of a slow-moving vehicle, yelled “Biba” as he extended his right hand to his supporters. Wella Palacios, who was in the back seat, also waved and yelled “thank you” to supporters, who cheered and approached their vehicle.
Among those who welcomed Palacios were Rep. Denita Yangetmai (D-Saipan), Rep. Vicente Camacho (D-Saipan), Rep. Corina L. Magofna (Ind-Saipan), and Sen. Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan).
Brien Sers Nicholas Jr., of the Committee to elect Palacios and Apatang, said yesterday that the lieutenant governor will be speaking more with media partners in the coming days.
The 66-year-old Palacios was rushed to the Commonwealth Health Center last May 31 after collaping during a break while giving testimony in the criminal case against Gov. Ralph DLG Torres in Superior Court. Three days later, he was transported from Saipan to the Queens Healthcare Center in Honolulu via military aircraft for additional testing and treatment.
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor then stated that Palacios was experiencing pain in his lower back.
In his statement last month, Palacios said he feels much better and looks forward to getting back home and working again.
