NMTech hosts Guam Contractors Association info session

The Northern Marianas Technical Institute accommodated last Tuesday, July 12, 2022, over 40 individuals from various businesses in the construction industry on its campus for an initial information session cohosted by the Guam Contractors Association and NMTech. The intent of this meeting was to gather business owners, key partners, and stakeholders who have shared goals in capacity building projects within the CNMI as we continue to work toward growing and developing our workforce and our economy. NMTech’s end goal is to establish a CNMI Chapter contractors association under the Guam Contractors Association umbrella.

The Guam Contractors Association was represented by its president, James Martinez, and its administrate manager, Desiree Lizama. They presented on the association’s purpose and objectives, governance of the organization, committees within the group, and membership benefits. Also present were invaluable partners, such as the Department of Labor Workforce Investment Agency to present on the Registered Apprenticeship Program, the Northern Marianas College to present on the State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant, and the CNMI Department of Labor OSHA presenting on the available resources and services that they are able to offer.

NMTech CEO Jodina Attao was connected to the Guam Contractors Association through Patrick McGlew of Procurement Technical Advisory Center in the CNMI and Bert Johnson of the Guam Trades Academy back in April 2022. Within a week span, NMTech was able to fly to Guam to meet with the Guam Contractors Association and within three months, NMTech was able to host its first info session on Saipan.

Lastly, a special thank you to our NMTech board of trustees for their endless support and attendance at this event,” said an NMTech news release.

NMTech offers classes in the construction field including Carpentry, Electrical, Welding, HVAC, Construction Craft Laborer and Electronics Systems Technology under the National Center for Construction in Education and Research, a nationally recognized certificate in the United States.
