4 recent MCS graduates gain college admissions
Mount Carmel School’s recent graduates Jedric Nathaniel Cruz Villar, Hyunkyu Park, Jeremiah Jerome Hernandez Diaz, and Larry Dean T. Cruz have gained admission to each of their respective colleges for their undergraduate education.
Attending Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey is Villar, who is a2022 graduate and aims to earn a degree in filmmaking starting this fall.

“I chose Montclair State University due to its diverse population and film studies programs. Montclair State University is well known for its notable alumni like Bruce Willis, Allen Ginsberg, and Lorene Scafaria. As an aspiring filmmaker, I felt that MSU would help set the foundation for a career in film,” he said.
Park, another MCS AlumKnight, intends to pursue his undergraduate degree at the New York University in New York. While his major is currently undecided, Hyunkyu looks forward to the opportunities NYU has to offer to help him declare an official path of study.

“Located in the heart of New York City, NYU provides abundant intern opportunities and practical experience by utilizing the urban attribute of the city. Living in a city with great resources, I look forward to having an enriched education,” Park said.
Diaz is an incoming collegiate athlete set to attend Park University. After many years of devotion to soccer in the CNMI, Diaz joins a small community of CNMI athletes who have earned the opportunity to play a division-level sport with a significant scholarship. Pursuing a degree in business management, Diaz aims to succeed as both an athlete and a working professional.

“It has always been a goal of mine to play as a collegiate athlete with a significant scholarship to cover the cost of my college tuition. Not only did the scholarship solidify my choice, but so did my future coaches and teammates who continue to be very open and communicative. I look forward to studying for my degree and playing as a division-level athlete from the NMI,” he said.
Pursuing a degree in pre-science is Cruz, who is set to attend Seattle University in Seattle, Washington. “I chose Seattle University because it strikes a balance between new experiences and a small, tight-knit community. I know I’ll eventually feel right at home in their diverse, yet small population,” he said.

Despite the community impact of Super Typhoon Soundelor, Super Typhoon Yutu, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Mount Carmel School continues to strengthen its college preparatory program in order to support its graduates’ academic and professional endeavors.
