Pride Month kickoff signals monthlong series of events

Pride Marianas Youth, Pride Marianas, T-Project, volunteers and community partners are inviting the public tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1, to the kick off of Pride Month 2022, , with a proclamation signing at the Minachom Atdao Pavilion in Susupe at 10am, signaling the start of a series of events for the whole month of June.

Right after the proclamation signing will be an “Isla Roadside Waving” across multiple locations: at the San Antonio Basketball Court from 1pm to 5pm, at the Atkins Kroll intersection in Oleai from 4pm to 5pm, the Kagman Mobil Station intersection from 1:30pm to 5:30pm, and at the Marina Heights Building I in Puerto Rico from 1:30pm 5:30pm.

“Everyone is welcome to wave from your offices! Let’s make a rainbow across the islands for all our youth to see!” said the Pride Marianas Youth office.

On Tuesday evening, June 2, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, join the Pride Marianas and the Northern Marianas Humanities Council at the Safehouse in Garapan for an adult-only event for a discussion about the Chamorro and Carolinian words and phrases associated with the LGBTQIA+ experience in the Marianas. The featured speakers will be Chailang Palacios, Donald Mendiola, K’nilismer’fifi Tuhuweitae, Frankie Eliptico, Christine Tudela, and DJ Dice. It is a free event but space is limited.

On June 3, from 6pm to 10pm, head over to Marianas Creations in Garapan for “Pride First Friday in June,” which is a monthly celebration of local art and artists.

At the Guma Sakman in Susupe, join 500 Sails and Pride Marianas on June 5, from 10am to 2pm, for “Lailai 4 Pride.”

On June 8, 2022 at 4pm, there will be the “Love Yourself, Love Everyone” event at the Northern Marianas College Mango Terrace.

A “Read Out Loud” will be held on June 11 and June 18.

On Rota, there will be a “Color Run” on June 11.

On June 14, from 7:30pm to 9pm at the Chá cafe, join the “Queer Lit Book Club” in reading Chamorro author Julian Aguon’s collection of poetry, prose, and orations, The Properties of Perpetual Light, and to discuss and share experiences. The “Stride for Pride” and “Pride at the Park” will be held at the NMI Museum on June 28.
