Mangrove Run part deux on June 4

Run Saipan will be holding its 2nd Annual Mangrove 5K on June 4, starting 6am near the Gov. Eloy S. Inos Peace Park.
The Mangrove Run is named after the shrubs that line up the pathway along the run route past the Boating Safety Office toward what used to be the Puerto Rico dump site.
Like last year, participants will line up at the starting line across the U.S. Army base/troop store. They will then proceed to the Outer Cove Marina and then turn around at the Micro Beach pavilion before returning to the starting line.
“It’s the same route as last year. People have to run into the two corners of the marina and back out, follow the pathway until the Micro Beach Pavilion and then run all the way back to the start line,” said Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr.
Last year, Marshall Hoskins and Noriko Jim won the debut of the Mangrove 5K.
Hoskins completed the 5K run in 19.28, while Jim topped the women’s division in 22.20.
Entry fee to the 2nd Annual Mangrove 5K is free for Run Saipan members and $5 for non-members.
Shoe drive continues
Dela Cruz also reminded the community that Run Saipan’s shoe drive is continuing. The campaign intends to help Rota residents who will take part in a 5K fun run.
Dubbed Couch to 5K Run, the event is organized by the Northern Marianas College with help from Run Saipan.
Dela Cruz said those who want to donate their extra pairs of “good condition” running shoes to please bring them to NMC Building B or just hand them over to any Run Saipan officers.
