Registration now open for Filipino overseas voters

All citizens of the Philippines who are abroad, at least 18 years old on the day of the elections (May 9, 2016), and who are registered overseas voters, may vote for president, vice president, senators, and party-list representatives.

Those who wish to become registered overseas voters are reminded that the period of registration is from May 6, 2014, to Oct. 31, 2015. Qualified Filipino citizens who are on Guam, Saipan, Rota, and Tinian, as well as those who are in Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of the Marshall Islands may register through the Philippine Consulate General in Agana.

Personal appearance is necessary as the voter registration process requires the intake of a person’s biometric data. Applicants should present proof of Philippine citizenship, such as a valid Philippine passport or NSO-issued certificate of birth.

Those unable to personally appear at the Philippine Consulate General in Agana may also register as an overseas voter during forthcoming consular missions, the schedules of which will be announced through its Facebook account.

Consul General Bayani V. Mangibin urged those who recently completed the dual citizenship process to register and vote.

“We especially encourage those who have recently reacquired Philippine citizenship to exercise their right to vote and help select the next set of national leaders who possess the right mix of character and competence to sustain the progress and inclusive growth we have seen under the leadership of President Benigno S. Aquino III,” Mangibin said.
