Run Saipan is launching a shoe drive that will benefit community members on Rota who will take part in a 5K fun run, dubbed Couch to 5K Run, that will be organized by the Northern Marianas College.

“We’re tag-teaming with NMC to launch the first-ever shoe drive. The items collected in the shoe drive will be donated to the people of Rota who do not have access to athletics stores on the island. This is going to help with the college’s launch of a 5K on Rota in June,”  said Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr.

Run Saipan said those who want to donate their extra pairs of running shoes to please bring them to NMC more specifically to the Office of the President.

Asked what condition the running shoes to be donated should be, Dela Cruz simply said “good” condition.

“They can be used but not with holes, missing laces, ripped off soles, etc. It’s a donation for a good cause to launch a health initiative on Rota by Team Proa,” he reiterated.

NMC president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero joined Dela Cruz in the appeal for the donation of running shoes.

“NMC’s Health Squad appreciates Run Saipan’s assistance in helping our Rota community get healthy by preparing for their upcoming Couch to 5K Run,” he said.

Run Saipan says kudos
Dela Cruz, meanwhile, extended his thanks to everyone who made last Saturday’s Marianas Tourism Month 5K Fun Run a success.

“Thank you to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres for letting us be a part of his fitness journey and event.  Thank you also to the CNMI Office of the Governor, Marianas Visitors Authority, Tan Sui Lin Foundation, Lady Dianne Torres  Foundation, Tan Holdings, Saipan International School, Power 99, Department of Public Safety and especially Northern Marianas Athletics  for running the online registration system, and officially sanctioning the governor’s race. Thank you as well to all participants supporters. Thank you to Run Saipan’s volunteer race staff, ADZTECH Company, and MVA staff for all their hard work in making this possible.”

The Marianas Tourism Month 5K Fun Run was organized by Run Saipan along with the Office of the Governor and MVA.
