Congratulations NMC Nursing Class of 2014!

Share

It was an honor and a privilege to have been part of your wonderful event this last Wednesday evening, May 21, at the Royal Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort.

I was so moved by your poise and elegance that I felt like I was at a ball—whatever that’s like. My beautiful wife was also enchanted that she talked about becoming a nurse. The famous quotes you each chose reflected your passion for what you will be doing.

I recall reading a famous quote by somebody I can’t remember anymore that goes “Nurses should be automatic saints.” No doubt, we all know that when we, or those we love, are ailing, that a nurse is there beside them helping and caring.

Florence Nightingale, an English girl in the late 1800’s became a nurse despite her prominent family’s pleading. That was where this Pinning Ceremony first originated for nurses.

This practice has become a source of pride and tradition for nurses throughout the world. It is because of this rich history and total dedication to saving lives that make nurses invaluable to any community, most especially ours. Saipan is a better place for us all because we have 22 more nurses!

To Dominic Hideo, my long-time friend, brother, and recipient of the Leadership Award, that auspicious night, and all his wonderful graduating classmates, my apologies for fumbling a couple of times, but congratulations and God Bless you all!
