It all comes down to the Final Four in the Precinct 5 Hoops and Vibes Basketball Tournament, as Young Dooms, Utu bangers, K2 Ballers, and T8 Warriors compete for the championship this Saturday, May 21, under the lights at the Kagman Community Center hardcourt.
The co-ed youth basketball tournament started with eight teams and featured boys and girls between 14 and 18 years old in full-court 5-v-5 action. The K2 Ballers (3-0) survived the tournament unscathed, while the Young Dooms (2-1), Utu Bangers (2-1) and T8 Warriors (2-1) fell just once apiece.
The K2 Ballers have been powered by Garret Mariano and Kaipo Dikito who averaged 16 points per game and 12.6 points per game, respectively. Dikito’s hot hand accounted for a tournament-leading eight buckets from beyond the arc, just one ahead of Steven King (Irish Spring) and Kavid Blasa (Utu Bangers), with seven apiece.
The final games get underway this Saturday when the Young Dooms battle the Utu Bangers at 5:30pm, followed by the K2 Ballers and T8 Warrior at 6:30pm. The winners advance to the championship at 8:30pm, while the vanquished play for third place at 7:30pm. The awards presentation will follow the championship match.
Tournament organizers want to thank Joeten Enterprises, PHI pharmacy, McDonald’s of Guam and Saipan, and Mariana’s Fast Food, Inc. for their generous donations of gift certificates and other in-kind items for the winning teaams.
