Guam records 3 COVID-19-related deaths; 27 new cases
The Joint Information Center in Guam reported Friday that it was notified of three COVID-19-related fatalities:
The 359th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City on April 1, 2022. The patient was a 70-year-old male, fully vaccinated with one booster, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on March 31.
The 360th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at GRMC on April 28, 2022. The patient was a 91-year-old male, fully vaccinated with one booster, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on April 26.
The 361st COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital on May 12, 2022. The patient was a 57-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on May 12.
“[First gentleman] Jeff [Cook], [Lt. Gov.] Josh [Tenorio] and I pray for lasting peace and comfort for all those who are grieving their loved ones during this pandemic,” said Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero. “While our eyes are filled with anticipation and turn toward recovery, pandemic remnants remain through infection and lost lives and should prompt our community to continue practicing mitigation efforts for the safety and wellbeing of our most vulnerable.”
Also, the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services reported 27 new cases of COVID-19 from 908 specimens analyzed May 12, 2022. 14 of the cases reported Friday were through the Department of Defense.
To date, there have been a total of 48,496 officially reported cases in Guam, with 361 deaths, 233 cases in active isolation, and 47,902 not in active isolation.
As of May 12, 2022, 136,526 eligible residents (5 years and older) are fully vaccinated. A total of 58,988 eligible residents have received their first booster shots. 4,127 eligible residents have received their second booster shots. (PR/Saipan Tribune)
