Freddie Cataluna was hailed Fil-Taga Golfers Association’s April Ace of the Month Tournament held last April 23 at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.

The Iloilo, Philippines native scored a net 71 after the 5-handicapper fired a gross score of 76 with identical 38s in the front and back nine.

February ace winner Lito Mendoza came in second with his net 72 following a gross 85 (43-42), while completing the Top 3 was Jess Yumul who wound up with a net 73 built around a gross of 97 (47-50).

Cataluna said his driving and putting were just working for him during the last tournament. The owner of a construction company also said that everyone was fortunate that the weather last April 23 was fine.

“It was good weather and the course was OK except for few greens that were not cut and bumpy,” he said.

Cataluna attributed his victory to playing golf everytime he can as he practices at least once a week, but mostly he winds up hitting the greens twice a week.

With the win, he joins January winner Mike Cruz, Mendoza, and March ace Dan Ganacias as early qualifiers for Fil-Taga’s season-ending tournament.

In the par 3 competition, Cataluna got it in hole No. 6, while Jhun Cayetano won in hole No. 12. Mendoza was without peer in hole No. 15.

A total of 10 Fil-Taga members took part in the April tourney and the following are the rest of the players with their scores in parenthesis: Ruben Avendano (net 75), Bert Suda (net 77), Ed Varias (net 79), Jhun Cayetano (net 80), Ganacias (net 83), and Romy Cayetano (net 74).
