Hoops and Vibes Basketball tourney set next month
The Precinct 5 Hoops and Vibes Basketball Tournament kicks off next month when players from across the CNMI descend upon the Kagman Community Center to “hoop it up” under the lights.
The co-ed youth basketball tournament takes place in Precinct 5 but registration is open to boys and girls throughout the CNMI between 14 and 18 years old. Each team must have at least seven players and have at least one female on the squad. Uniforms are not required but each team must wear the same-colored shirt with a number.
Registration is free and the deadline to register is this Friday, April 29 at 4:30pm. There will be a meeting for coaches and team captains at the Kagman Community Center next Monday, May 2 at 5:30pm. The opening ceremony kicks off at the Kagman Community Center court Friday, May 6 at 6pm followed by the first game at 6:30pm.
The three-week tournament is sponsored by Precinct 5 Reps. Leila Staffler (D-Saipan) and Richard Lizama (D-Saipan), and features games on May 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 20, and wraps up with the championship Saturday, May 21. Three games will be played per night, each with two 15-minute halves and one timeout per half for each team. The top teams will take home trophies, prizes and bragging rights!
