The Republican Party of the CNMI’s board directors and over 200 supporters assembled at the CNMI Legislature yesterday to demonstrate their strong support for Gov. Ralph DLG Torres.

A news statement yesterday said the board of directors stands in solidarity of their call for the Senate to dismiss the Articles of Impeachment.

Those in attendance represent all walks of life – nationalities, ethnic backgrounds, socio-economic status, and religious faith – to freely assemble. Many of them offered public testimony in their own words. Many more expressed their strong opposition to the impeachment process altogether.

“I am deeply humbled to see so many who have come into my life over the years support me. Young adults and retirees, relatives and former colleagues showed up. Quite a number spoke up. Among the most moving was testimony given by a young man who shared how I’ve been a father figure to him over the years, a mentor in life. I was moved to tears because, despite these distractions, our supporters did not cower to the political pressures. The opposite happened. They came forward to testify as to the positive impact I’ve had, our hardworking administration has had, upon the lives of our people, young and old. Si yu’os ma’ase to my family and extended family from throughout the Commonwealth who out to support me and first lady Diann through this difficult process. Un dankulo na agrediesemento para I ma–aina-ta yan I retirees lookue for their continued love and support,” said Torres.

“We are not swayed in our support for Gov. Torres. Rather, we are moved to rise in opposition to all the political games that the challengers are throwing in our path,” said CNMI GOP president Candace Celis.

“A record of hard work and a genuine heart cannot be easily erased with political shenanigans. Our people are living testimony of the Torres administration’s successes. His achievements are inherent in the new buildings, roads and programs that he has brought to our community,” said Committee to Elect chair James Ada.
