OES inducts new members of elementary honor society

Oleai Elementary School inducted last April 8 at the school’s cafeteria eight new members of the Turtle Chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society.

The eight new officers and members, consisting of the school’s 4th and 5th graders, are Alexander Joseph M. Salundaguit (president), Hanna Marie P. Padolina (vice president), Isabel Maximina I. Carreon (secretary), Alanah Ikloi H. Aughenbaugh (historian), Lysander Vince P. Domingo (treasurer), and members Kameron Saramalpi R. lguel, Hannah Gabrielle R. Ramos, and Brent Ryle B. Villanueva.

The ceremony’s keynote speaker was lrieyana Aughenbaugh, who is one of the outstanding OESl alumni, and also served as president of NEHS Turtle chapter. Aughenbaugh, who also served as vice president and president of the school’s Student Council, reminded the inductees: “Each of you have different goals in life. What comes easy to one may be difficult for another. So remember to encourage and lift each other up so that you may continue to reach your full potential. Like mother Theresa said, ‘Life is a promise; fulfill it.’ I congratulate you for this honor. You truly are the best of the best.”

OES principal Jasylene Parico recognized the eight inductees as the “Amazing Eight.” She said, “Despite the challenges over the past years, you were all resilient, strong, and continued to grow. So don’t stop there, continue to grow to become a better person, a role model to others, and of service to your community.”

The school’s administrators and teachers, as well as the students’ parents and family members, cheered on these talented students as they were honored for their academic and service achievements.

The NEHS is a prestigious program that recognizes the achievement of children and involvement through leadership development and services activities. Students in the 4th to 5th grade apply and are chosen based on the four pillars: leadership, service, responsibility, and character.

To be eligible for membership consideration, students must have earned all 3’ and 4’s grade average from this year and previous years, should be on grade level for both STAR Reading and STAR Math assessments, completed an application form outlining their leadership, service, and responsibility achievements, and received recommendations from their teachers.

Student applications were reviewed by N EHS Faculty Council Bertha Orsini, Sherwin Mendiola, Ernestina Agulto, and Tricia Taitano_ The OES NEHS advisers are Alberta Aldan, Barbara Aguon, and Mario Alo. (PR)
