The annual pilgrimage to the highest point of Saipan, Mount Tapochau, as part of the Good Friday tradition, will resume this Friday, April 15.

Many Catholic devotees walk to the top of Mount Tapochau every Good Friday in remembrance of Jesus Christ’s journey before his crucifixion.

According to the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa website, the Good Friday stations of the cross to Mount Tapochau will resume again this year after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The procession in Chalan Kanoa on Good Friday will also be observed.

The lowering of the cross at Mount Carmel Cathedral will be held at 4:30am, which will begin the transfer of the cross from the cathedral to Mount Tapochau.

Arrival at Mount Tapochau will be at 5:30am, where reading of the Passion, Stations of the Cross, and walk to the summit will begin.

On Easter Sunday, there will be a sunrise Mass at Mount Tapochau as well.

The holy Masses for the Sacred Triduum—Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil—will take place in most parishes/churches on Saipan.

For a detailed schedule of Mass this holy week in the respective parishes/churches, you may visit the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa’s website at https://rcdck.org/2022/04/holy-week-2022-schedule/
