Basketball clubs meeting set for April 12

The Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Association is calling representatives of basketball clubs on Rota, Tinian, and Saipan to attend a meeting on Tuesday, April 12, at the Northern Marianas Sports Association conference room.
The meeting is set for 6pm and for those who could not make it to the meeting personally, they can still attend the event via zoom as a link will be provided later.
NMIBF president James Lee said the meeting aims to engage the clubs more on the activities and matters involving NMI basketball, particularly the programs that would benefit the clubs and their players and coaches. Lee added that club representatives will be briefed on membership requirements, the election process, tournaments, and the annual general assembly that will be held on April 26.
“We are reaching out to the clubs and their representatives to get them more involved with the NMI basketball rebuilding program. We have limited engagements with the club last year due to the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, but moving forward, we want to hear from the clubs how we can help them grow their own program. Basketball clubs play a very critical role in the development of our sport and the NMIBF along with its partners and supporters in both private and public sectors want every club to have a voice, be active, and encourage their players and officials to be part of their respective programs,” Lee said.
Last year, the NMIBF through FIBA Oceania donated equipment to clubs on Saipan and Tinian and also hosted a 3×3 tournament for the men’s, women’s, and U18 teams from the two islands. Rota was also invited to join the competition. This year, the federation then brought its version of FIBA Foundation’s Basketball For Good program to Saipan villages by holding a series of mini basketball outreach program called “Bola.” Players from Saipan basketball clubs and many village residents joined the “Bola session,” which the NMIBF also hopes to bring on Rota and Tinian.
“We know clubs have a lot of ideas and questions and this (meeting) is a good venue to bring these so please join us in this important meeting,” Lee said.
