Manta Ray Battalion’s Unarmed Team tops JROTC’s drill contest
The Unarmed Team of the Manta Ray Battalion of Saipan Southern High School has won first place overall in the Annual CNMI Drill competition, winning them the chance to represent the CNMI in the Golden Bear National Drill Meet in Torrance California.
The Annual CNMI Drill competition was actually held last March 18, 2022, but the Manta Ray Battalion did not learn of the team’s win until an online Google Meet on March 23 when the results were announced.
The drills were conducted separately due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with both Armed and Unarmed Teams of the Manta Ray Battalion doing their drills last March 18, 2022, both teams showcasing their Inspection, Color Guard, Regulation, and Exhibition routines to the evaluators. The scores were not announced on the day of the competition due to other schools not having been evaluated yet.
“Both teams had to face challenges as they were practicing during a pandemic, knowing that they’re risking themselves. However, I commend everyone for putting their time and effort into making it to our practice days,” said C/LTC Martha Gordon. “I, along with the other leaders in the team, are so proud of them for putting countless hours of their time, dedication, and motivation into this victory” (PR)
