“Smoking” Jun Tabora proved that age is just a number as he scored 35 points to lead Royal Pacific to a 96-73 thrashing of winless Super Tech in the open division of the Inaugural SCLC Basketball League last Thursday at the Gillette Multi-Purpose Gymnasium in Gualo Rai.

Tabora, who is the leading scorer of the masters division while playing for DECM, didn’t score in the first quarter, but Royal Pacific still took a 23-14 lead.

When he finally got going in the second with 9 points, it was all she wrote for Super Tech, which trailed 44-18 at the half.

Tabora then erupted for 17 points in the third, as Royal Pacific extended their advantage to 31 points, 69-38, heading into the last 10 minutes of the contest.

He then capped his explosive night by cruising for another 9 points in the fourth as Royal Pacific improved its win-loss mark to 2-3. Super Tech lost for the fifth time in five games and was led by the 23 markers of Dick Tibayan.

In the second game, Vizion Insurance leveled its record to 3-3 following an 83-67 victory over RNV Construction, who like Super Tech are stuck in the cellar at 0-5. Ronald Rueda fired a game-high 31 points, while Rodel Pastrana tossed in 19 points in the win. Jun Ocampo was the lone bright spot for the losers with 25 markers.

HBR International nosed of Marianas Dental Center, 77-71, in the third game to up its slate to 4-2, while dropping MDC to 2-4

After trailing 22-15 in the first quarter, HBR International cut their deficit to a point at the half before taking a candlestick lead after three quarters of play. The team finally eked out the win thanks to the 12 combined points of J.R. Galang and Mario Rotap in the fourth. Galang scored 25 points in the win, while John Darag was the high-point man for MDC with 16.

In Friday’s lone match, The Game won its fourth game in five matches with a 103-86 whipping of 670 Gravity. Mac Mintac lost his scoring duel with Joseph Torres, 31-53, but came out with the “W.” The loss was 670 Gravity’s fourth in seven tries.
