Babauta to speak at climate conference today

Rep. Sheila Babauta (D-Saipan) was invited to speak today at the Future of Micronesia-Strategies for Resilience and Sustainability Conference to share her reflections from the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Glasgow, Scotland where she delivered remarks and introduced former U.S. President Barack Obama.
Babauta is one of three speakers at today’s two-hour virtual webinar hosted and curated by Indigenous Pacific Islands Knowledge Universe through an academic partnership with the University of Pittsburgh. She will be joined by Tina Stege, Climate Envoy from the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Jennifer Koskelin Gibbons, the director of the Palau Pledge.

The goal for the conference is to elevate local and indigenous dialogue about challenges facing Micronesia, broaden awareness of solutions and approaches to resilience and sustainability of Micronesian island communities, and nurture regional advocacy and leadership about Micronesian indigenous knowledge.
The conference series is open to the public and consists of three virtual webinars: COP26 Reflection and Takeaway for Micronesia (March 23), Climate Change as a National Security Issue (April 6) and Climate Change and Legal Rights (April 20). The audience is intended to include Micronesian island communities, academics, students, international stakeholders, government and regional leaders.
