US govt files additional charge of enticement of minor vs Roberto
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has filed in federal court an additional charge against former acting CNMI Division of Fish and Wildlife director Raymond Borja Roberto for allegedly enticing another minor to engage in prostitution.
The third superseding indictment filed Tuesday charged Roberto with three counts of enticement of a minor and one count of witness tampering.
A prior indictment only charged him with two counts of enticement of a minor and one count of witness tampering. That indictment involved two minors who were allegedly enticed to engage in prostitution.
In the third superseding indictment, assistant U.S. attorney Rami S. Badawy alleged that Roberto persuaded three female minors to have sex with him in exchange for cash from March 1, 2013, to July 18, 2013.
On the witness tampering matter, Badawy stated that the offense happened on April 24, 2014, while Roberto was detained pending trial. Badawy said that Roberto attempted to obstruct, influence, and impede the case by attempting to influence the testimony of an individual.
The prosecutor said Roberto attempted to persuade that same person to alter, destroy, and conceal evidence.
Roberto had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona set the trial date on July 23, 2014, at 10am.
