GCC congratulates 22 with boot camp certificates

MANGILAO, Guam—Guam Community College honored a combined 22 participants in the Diesel Mechanic I and Construction III boot camps in a completion ceremony on Monday, Feb; 28, 2022.

Through GCC’s partnerships with Employer Sponsors in the private sector, these participants will have employment opportunities in the very industries they have trained for.

Diesel Mechanic Boot Camp GCC employer private sector partners include Triple J Enterprises, Inc., Mr. Rubbishman, Mid Pac Far East, LLC, East West Rental Center, Inc., Guam Pak Express, Inc., Pepsi Bottling Company, and Morrico Equipment, and Atkins Kroll Inc. Inland Builders is the private sector partner for the Construction Boot Camp.

“We identify our employer partners at the onset of the program to provide the motivation for students to focus on the competition so that they can all become employed. All of these students represent a very important part of our future. They’ve committed time to learn the trade and skills and now they have the opportunity for employment. That is an amazing opportunity, not just for employment, but for a career,” said Dr. Mary Okada, president of GCC.

“How exciting is this? From training, you go into a career, an actual career, and application of what you have learned. Thank you to all of you [here] for your motivation and your efforts in making our community economy even stronger,” said Guam Gov. Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero.

Of the 22 completers, 13 are from the Diesel Mechanic I boot camp with courses like Introduction to Diesel Tech and Preventative Maintenance I and Diesel Tech and Preventative Maintenance II, Diesel Engines I.

The Construction III boot camp was fully funded by the Department of the Interior’s Technical Assistance Program Grant awarded to GCC. There were a total of nine completers and they have all completed courses relative to the industry: Introduction to Carpentry, Electricity Level 1, and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Level 1. In addition to these courses, students will also receive their certification to provide Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation with an automated defibrillator. (PR)
