Hamilton scholarship deadline extended to March 5

The deadline to apply for the 2022 OCW 670 Retta Sue Hamilton Scholarship has been extended to March 5, 2022.

This scholarship, which celebrates the life and life’s work of Retta Sue Hamilton, is an initiative of the organization Our Common Wealth 670. It offers a one-time $1,000 educational scholarship to graduating CNMI high school seniors and to currently enrolled U.S. college students at an accredited university or college who graduated from a CNMI high school.

Applicants should be pursuing degree(s) in Environmental or Public Health, Public Policy and Governance, Diplomacy or other degrees that are in line with OCW 670’s goal to “protect our ancestral lands, seas and skies from irreparable damage caused by military practices and other developments that pose a threat to our health, physical environment and livelihoods.”

Student applicants shall submit an essay of approximately 500 words on what college they have been accepted into and how their studies will prepare them for future work and/or activism toward this goal.

The selection of the 2022 Retta Sue Hamilton Scholarship shall be made by the OCW 670 board. The selection will be final.

Essays must be submitted to ourcommonwealth670@gmail.com no later than March 5, 2022.

In accepting this scholarship, the awardee is to fully understand that:

• It must be their intention to complete their college degree.

• The selected recipient must provide official proof of registration into an accredited college for the upcoming semester.

• All applicants must average and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout the scholarship period.

• And that their essay submission is the property of OCW 670 and may be posted or published by the organization in its social media. (PR)
