Yi Su Jeong got her first victory in CNMI Women’s Golf Association monthly tournament after topping the February competition last Feb. 12 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s east course.
The 49-year-old ball-striker shot a net score of 76 after taming the greens and fairways of the Kagman golf course with a gross of 85. The 9-handicapper shot a 41 in the front nine and a 44 in the back nine.
“No special feelings. I’m just very happy to win this tournament. I just focused on trying my best during the game,” Jeong said after her win.
She said the conditions at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort last Saturday were not so ideal.
“The grass in the course was pretty dry, leading to some of my shots to miss. The weather was windy and cool though.”
Jeong, who started playing golf 18 years ago, congratulated everyone for playing a good round of golf. She also gave herself a pat in the back for taking the monthly plum.
“I’m dedicating this win to myself. I won this series because I performed the best out of the participants.”
Originally from South Korea, Jeong used to manage a tourist guesthouse before the COVID-19 pandemic severely affected the islands’ tourism industry.
Finishing second to Jeong in the February tournament was Nirimai Kobel with her net 76 (88 gross, 45-43), while Yuko Togawa completed the Top 3 with her net 80 (82 gross, 39-43)
