Public warned of high surf, rip currents
The public is being warned that hazardous surf of 8 to 10 feet is expected along north facing reefs and beaches. The risk of rip currents will be high along north and east facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center’s State Warning Point, a high surf advisory remains in effect until 7am today, Tuesday, while a high risk of rip currents is present through Tuesday morning along north and east facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.

This will create dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The public is advised to avoid venturing out toward north and east facing reefs. Elsewhere, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. (Saipan Tribune)
