Koblerville Elementary School’s Umang Glee Club is all set for next month’s Tumon Bay Music Festival in Guam after the group successfully raised needed funding to send its delegates.

Koblerville Elementary School principal Rizalina Purunganan said the school was able to raise $10,000 for the group’s travel expenses to the event.

This year, 23 members of the music organization will compete in the competition’s various categories and the group hopes to bring home the Sweepstakes Trophy-the prestigious title awarded to the overall winner of the entire festival. The honor was last bagged by Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Ray Band, which will skip this year’s festival.

Purunganan said this year marks the Umang Glee Club’s second participation in the festival. Last year it bagged the second overall award.

Of the amount, the principal said the Public School System allocated $7,000 for the group’s travel, while the rest came from proceeds of the group’s fundraising activities as well as prizes it bagged in on-island competitions like the Christmas in the Marianas festival where they bagged the top award.

For the food allowance of the group, the principal is optimistic that they can raise an additional $2,000 before they fly to the competition scheduled from March 2 through March 11.

The Umang Glee Club is an exclusive music organization established in Koblerville Elementary School which aims to hone and enhance the musical talents of its students.

Purunganan said that every year, the school opens recruitment to deserving students.
