The U.S. Air Force is conducting flight operations on Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Farallon de Medinilla this month as part of its Cope North 2022 exercises.

According to a statement from the CNMI Homeland Security & Emergency Management, Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs, and the Commonwealth Ports Authority, the group of USAF officers came in last Sunday and they will remain here for the month of February to perform Cope North 2022 exercises. They were greeted at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport by members of the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force.

Cope North 2022 is a multilateral U.S. Pacific Air Forces field training exercise focused on a Combat Air Force large-force employment operations, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations to demonstrate mission readiness and interoperability between Japan Air Self-Defense Force, Royal Australian Air Force, and the U.S. Air Force.

The joint statement informs CNMI residents of active military aircrafts within the Mariana Islands and to not be alarmed.

“This joint public advisory is issued to inform members of the public not to be alarmed of increased sightings of military aircrafts associated with this multinational exercise, to include limited cargo vessel movements into the islands of Saipan, Tinian and Rota. All COVID-19 mitigation measures are in place and fully enforced,” it stated.
