WIA readies for 2012 Summer Youth Employment and Training Program
The Workforce Investment Agency has begun preparations for the upcoming 2012 Summer Youth Employment and Training Program. Applications will be ready by March 1, 2012 at www.wia.gov.mp, Hopwood Jr. High School, Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School, Kagman High School, Chacha Junior High School, and all WIA offices on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
Summer employment qualifications are not based on the application submission date but on priority index ranking (PIR) based on age, income, federal statutory and state recognized applicant barriers. The higher the PIR, the more qualified the individual will be under WIA’s program rules and regulations.
WIA is providing sufficient time for parents and applicants to gather all the required documents, read, follow instructions and answer the application clearly and legibly, as well as affix all required signatures on the applications. This year’s summer program is expected to qualify CNMI wide a total of 300 youth participants working for a period of four weeks or from July 2 to 27, 2012 for the first phase and from July 30 to Aug. 24, 2012 for the second phase (Saipan only) should placement slots prove insufficient during the first phase.
Due to limited funding and in the interest of accommodating others that are wait-listed, WIA reserves the right to replace trainees for any reason as soon as their slots become available and will not allow interchanging of phase schedules for trainees that can’t hold their initial placement schedule. If additional funding is realized then more qualifying youths will be given the opportunity to participate in the summer program and will be published accordingly.
Names and schedules will be published the week of June 18, 2012 in the local papers and WIA’ website at www.wia.gov.mp. Work readiness workshops are scheduled for June 25-27, 2012 (Saipan), June 28, 2012 (Tinian), and June 29, 2012 (Rota). All summer qualifiers are required to attend the workshops. Application deadlines are March 29, 2012 (Rota and Tinian) and April 30, 2012 (Saipan). Incomplete applications will not be accepted nor certified. (PR)
