Saipan Swim Club members conquered the challenge of the “Hundreds Hundreds” long-distance competition last Saturday from the waters off Civic Center Beach in Susupe.

Taiyo Akimaru completed the boys 100x100s first, Jakey DeLeon Guerrero finished second, Moshe Sikkel third, and Michael Miller was fourth.

Jinie Thompson completed the girls 100x100s first with Savita Sikkel coming in second.

In the boys 50x100s, Jack Raho finished first, followed by his brother Tristan. Third place went to Zeno Iwami. Manuel Magboo and Sean Park came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Piper Raho and Nagi Takahashi finished 1-2 in the girls 50x100s. SSC head coach Richard Sikkel said they didn’t keep times for the “Hundreds Hundreds” event.

The Top 3 swimmers in each category received painted coconut trophies for all their troubles.

“The 100m is a common distance in the pool and during practice. Since they swam 100×100 we call it ‘Hundreds Hundreds,’” he said.

Sikkel said this isn’t the first time they held the “Hundreds Hundreds” competition.

“We have done this in the past as a club around New Year to ring in the year with a nice long-distance swim. Some of the SSC swimmers completed the 100x100s this weekend. The junior and senior group swam 100x100s and the younger swimmers swam 50x100s.”

Aside from SSC swimmers, the event also attracted Dolphin Swim Club’s Andrew Ahn, a pastor at a local Korean church.

“He swam with the kids for a bit over 7K and took a break for a while but went back and finished the rest of the 100 later in the day,” said Sikkel.

Tsunami Saipan Swimming Center was supposed to join but canceled due to swimmers having colds and injuries, according to the SSC head coach.

Sikkel congratulated all the winners and all the participants who took part in the event. He also extended his gratitude to Dolphin Swim Club for providing lifeguards for the “Hundreds Hundreds.”
