16-year-old flies solo from Guam to Saipan
At just 16 years old, Guam’s Lawrence C. Limtiaco became one of the youngest pilots to fly solo from Guam to Saipan, landing on Saipan yesterday morning, Sunday, Jan. 9, at 9am.
This flight completed the first of the four flights that is required in order to obtain a private pilot license.
Upon touchdown on Saipan in a Cessna 172P, Limtiaco flew to Rota, and returned to Guam afterward to conclude his solo flight at 12:14pm yesterday. Limtiano will be making a second cross country solo flight on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 following the same route.
Limtiaco, who is a motocross racer and assistant commander of the second platoon NJROTC at Guam’s Father Duenas Memorial High School, is also a student pilot.
Since the age of 12, Limtiaco had a goal to fly planes in the U.S. military.

Lawrence is an inspiration to youth in the region who want to become pilots, and has proven that with ambition and hard work, that is possible.
