Former CNMI Zoning board chair Diego C. Blanco passed away yesterday morning at his residence in As Lito of still unknown cause. He was 70.

Last July 23, Diego Blanco’s son, Rep. Ivan Alafanso Blanco, passed away of natural causes.

John Blanco, who is business manager and athletic director at Mt. Carmel School, said in a phone interview last night that a grandson found his older brother, Diego, lying motionless.

He said Diego Blanco was then transported by an ambulance to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., where he was pronounced dead.

He said they are awaiting reports from the Department of Public Safety and CHCC as to the cause of death.

John Blanco said they have no schedule yet as to funeral services.

He said Diego Blanco had eight children and nine siblings.

“He speaks his mind but we get along very well. I’ve always had a deep connection with my brother. He has similarities to my Dad,” John Blanco said.

Diego Blanco was elected Zoning board chair six times since he was first appointed to the board in 2012. In February 2019, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios accepted his courtesy resignation.
