Koblerville puts on show in All Schools
Koblerville Elementary School made last week’s 2014 McDonald’s/PSS All Schools Athletics Championships its stamping grounds, winning four of the six age group titles.
The Umangs swept the U8 division and topped the boys U10 and U12 age groups to reign supreme in the elementary competition of the annual event held from May 8 to 10 at the Oleai Sports Complex.
In the boys U8 division, Koblerville gained 76 points to lord it over 13 other schools. The Umangs got the most points in the division after dominating the running events in their age group. The eventual champion drew 10 points each in the 60m, 100, and 200m races and the three relays to go with its 14 markers from the 400m and two from the vortex throw.
Joining Koblerville on the podium and receiving a trophy for making it to the Top 3 were Oleai Elementary School and William S. Reyes Elementary School, which each collected 44 points. Saipan Community School missed the podium finish after settling for fourth with its 31 points, while Tinian Elementary School (29) placed fifth and followed by Brilliant Star Academy (25), Agape Christina School (25), San Vicente Elementary School (20), Saipan International School (19), San Antonio Elementary School (15), and Whispering Palms School.
In the girls U8, Koblerville’s girls team had more points than the boys with a field-best 93 markers. Again, the Umangs ruled the running events, having 10 points each in eight of the nine events and getting seven more in field events (long jump and vortex throw) and six in the 4x400m relay to smoke the competition.
The Lady Umangs were way ahead of San Antonio and Dandan, which had a close race for second and third place. San Antonio collected 48 points to edge Dandan, which got 46. Other schools entered in the girls U8 were Whispering Palms (28), San Vicente (26), WSR (20), SCS (18), Brilliant Star (12), and Tinian, SIS, and ACS, which bagged six points each.
Koberville got its third championship trophy after hauling 81 points in the boys U10 division. It almost doubled the output of runner-up San Vicente, which gained 46 markers. Tinian notched 38 points to round out the Top 3 and bring home its first trophy this season. Dandan missed its second trophy after dropping to fourth with its 32 points, while other participants in the age group were SIS (28), Whispering Palms (26), SCS (26), Agape (21), Oleai (19), Tanapag (8), WSR (8), and San Antonio (1).
WSR foiled Koberville’s bid for a sweep in the U10 age group after winning the girls division with the Kingfishers’ 93 points. WSR had enough entries in the running races and field events to beat Oleai, which settled for runner-up honors with its 72 points, 20 of them came from its impressive performance in the 60m race. Tinian Elementary School bagged its second third place trophy after drilling 44 points in the division and joining WSR and Oleai in the podium.
In the girls U12 age group, it was San Vicente’s turn to play the spoiler role to WSR’s bid for a second championship, as the former prevailed in the division after tallying 82 points and slipping past WSR (52) and Tinian (49). Agape (38), Koblerville (24), Oleai (17), Dandan (16), and San Antonio (14) completed the field.
In the boys U12, Koblerville nearly reached the century mark with its 99 points to foil Oleai’s bid for an upset. Oleai took the second place trophy with its 68 points, while Agape brought home the third place plum after nosing out Tinian, 39-33. Other schools that competed in the boys U12 were Dandan (28), San Vicente (25), San Antonio (18), SIS (12), and WSR and Whispering Palms, which got six points apiece.
