Saipan Unity Lions Club will host its 5th Annual Bike Race next Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, in Marpi.

Bong Martinez, SULC Marketing & Communications officer, said there will be two courses for men and women. The first course is the long course and will encompass the Banzai/Mobil/1-Million Gallon Water Tank Turnaround/Suicide Cliff/Bird Island/Banza route, while the easy course will be the Banzai/Mobil/Banzai route. Both courses will have mountain bike and road bike categories.

“This is a fundraising event which we will conduct to generate funds to help us raise awareness and deliver services in line with the Lions global causes which includes vision, hunger, diabetes, childhood cancer, and environment,” he said.

Martinez added that proceeds from the SULC 5th Annual Bike Race fundraiser will be used for various year-long programs that are in line with the aforementioned service goals as well as other humanitarian services as the needs arise.

To register, visit www.webscorer.com and the deadline for registration is on Nov. 24, 2021. Online registration fee is $20 plus online processing fee of $1 for a total of $21 paid via PayPal. All registrants will get free T-shirts with the first 50 early registrants getting free cycling glasses.

Martinez said all health and safety protocols approved by the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force for this bike race event will be implemented. Masks and hand sanitizers will be provided by SULC.

Last year over 100 took part in SULC’s 4th Annual Bike Race that was topped by Joel Buco (long road bike category) and Butch Sublemente (long MTB category). The short course were won by Ronald Bernardo (road bike), Michael Aparte (MTB), Julie Rose Felipe (women’s road bike), and Mariel Panaligan (women’s MTB).
