COVID-19 vaccine booster shots now available to age 18 or older

The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. and Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force are expanding the availability of COVID-19 booster shots and is now offering booster shots to all adults ages 18 years and older.
A CHCC statement said this move comes with guidance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration
Individuals who received a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine may receive a booster shot at least six months after completing their primary series. Individuals who received a Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine should receive a booster shot at least two months after completing their primary series.
Individuals can obtain a booster shot by walking into the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center, Monday to Saturday, 8am-4pm, and requesting the additional dose.
The COVID-19 vaccines approved and authorized in the U.S. continue to be effective at reducing the risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death.
Adverse reactions reported after getting booster shots were similar to the primary series/shot. Fatigue and pain at the injection site were the most commonly reported side effects, and overall, most side effects were mild to moderate. However, as with the 2-shot primary series, serious side effects are rare but may occur.
Individuals who have questions about booster doses should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition and whether getting a booster shot is appropriate for them. (PR)
