Run Saipan 21.20 Virtual 5K starts today

Run Saipan will again return to virtual competition for its 5-kilometer race this month with the 21.20 Virtual 5K set from 8am today, Nov. 19, to 8am Monday, Nov. 22.
Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said unfortunately due to the rise of COVID-19 cases on island, Run Saipan had no choice but to go back to doing this month’s fun run via a virtual race again.
“The fortunate part of this is that people anywhere can take part in this race. They can run anywhere and anytime between this Friday 8am to Monday 8am Chamorro Standard Time. Screenshot their results from the platform of their choosing to track their run and email us,” he said.
For the runners living on Saipan looking for a challenge, Dela Cruz said they have a chance to set a course record along the Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio Beach Road Pathway.
“We have a designated Run Saipan 5K route for people that want to set a record for it. The 0.25 marker on the pathway near the bus stop at Oleai Beach Bar & Grill will be the starting. Runners just need to run north until their GPS signals them to turn around at their 2.5K mark and complete their run. We will recognize the course record with overall and age group divisions,” he said.
The time to beat is last month’s 5K virtual run of 20:40 by Tania Tan. The junior at Fordham University ran that pace during the cross country meet at Cedarville, Ohio.
“It’s open season for course records! Who wants to be the top runner on the Beach Road Pathway course? If you can beat 20:40 even better. Good luck to this weekend’s runners!” said the Run Saipan president.
