Century, Capital are temporary quarantine sites
Shirley’s Coffee Shop Garapan still open; ‘no engagement with quarantined folk’
Century Hotel and Capital Hotel, which are both in Garapan, have been temporarily identified as isolation sites, according to Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force chair Warren Villagomez last Friday.
Villagomez said these hotels have been designated as quarantine sites due to an increase in the number of individuals being deemed “persons under investigation,” or PUIs, and to ensure that the current Kanoa Resort Saipan site remains adequate for the task force’s “contact tracing needs.”
On the ground floor of Century Hotel is Shirley’s Coffee Shop Garapan, which Villagomez said remains open.
When asked if having an open restaurant downstairs and a quarantine site upstairs is a point of concern for him and the task force, Villagomez assured that there will be no engagement or movement among individuals who find themselves placed at Century Hotel. Villagomez added that task force personnel and law enforcement will be present at the temporary quarantine site.
“Yes, Century’s open. Shirley’s [is] open. The use of Century Hotel is [as] an isolation containment area, so there’s no engagement nor movement from the folks that are being quarantined, and we have task force personnel that are present as well as law enforcement. …Very minimal movements and everything is being controlled and [kept] sterile,” said Villagomez.
He reiterated that the designation of Century and Capital hotels as temporary sites was just him and the task force planning ahead. “We’re just being proactive, these are not permanent. These are temporary use, and we [anticipate] shifting back to normal numbers,” he said.
Century Hotel was used as a quarantine site during the early part of the pandemic in March 2020.
